Springtime?
We have had tempertures in the 70's and 80's in the last week. Could it be that spring is here? The trees and roses certainly think so. They are budding and blooming like crazy. Hopefully we will not get another freeze and wind to kill them off. I could really get used to this weather until summertime.

Orange Groves
Something you hardly ever see in Southern California anymore. An orange tree with oranges on it. When I was a child, there were orange groves everywhere. They were a favorite place to play. When they irrigated the groves the ditches full of water were irresistable. You could build forts and play houses under them and have all kinds of games of chase through the trees. On cold nights we listened (on the radio) to the weather report to see if there would be a freeze and they would have to light the smudge pots. They were large heaters full of oil, placed in the groves, and lit to keep the oranges from freezing. When the trees were in blossom the wonderful smell the orange blossoms was everywhere. All the groves are just about gone now, haveing given way to the millions of homes that have been built in the last 50 years. I miss the groves and I miss them for the children of today that don't have the wonderful playgrounds that we had right outside our doors
